Senior School News
Welcome back to Term 2, as always there is a busy term ahead for our senior students.
ANZAC Day
We have started the term with our ANZAC Ceremony. I was impressed by the respect shown by the senior classes and the wreath layers during this event. Our school leaders took part in the ceremony and acquitted themselves beautifully when speaking in front of such a large audience.
Curriculum in Term 2
YEAR 5
This term in English, the Year 5 students are working on reading and creating information texts on the topic of Natural Disasters. In Mathematics they will continue to build their knowledge of Number and complete a unit focused on Measurement. By the end of term your child will be an expert on the three states of matter: Solids, Liquids and Gases through their study of Science and may be giving you advise on how to make good choices as a consumer as part of their work in HASS.
YEAR 6
In English, this term the Year 6 students are working on reading and creating information texts on the topic of Animal Adaptations. This work aligns to their Science unit which focuses on describing the effects an extreme environment has on a living thing. In Mathematics the children will continue to deepen their understanding of Number and will engage with two units focused on Measurement and Space. In HASS, the students will be broadening their world view by looking at how poverty affects people within and beyond Australia.
Cross Country
After many attempts we are going to hold our Cross Country for students in Years 4 – 6 tomorrow, Thursday April 24. Please check Facebook for more details of the times. Children will need to wear their hat and bring a water bottle tomorrow. Parents are welcome to attend.
Life Education
Across the next two weeks our Year 5 and Year 6 students will be attending the Life Education incursion: Relate, Respect, Connect. These lessons focus on building relationships, connecting with others, and showing respect as students move into puberty. This incursion is being presented at no cost to parents.
Gala Sports
Term 2 is when we see the culmination of all our student’s efforts at Friday sports practice. The PE team are currently working to identify the children who will be chosen to represent the school at Gala Sports in the sports of rugby, soccer, and netball. The gala days are: Friday, May 30th, Friday June 6th and Friday, June 13th. Children who are selected will travel by bus to the relevant sports field. Parents will be asked to cover the cost of the bus. More information will be made available closer to the date.
Stay connected and informed
With so much happening this term including all the events above, report cards, the Athletics carnival a book fair and the revival of the school P&C, just to name a few, it is important to keep an eye on our Facebook page and the newsletter to keep abreast of events. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your classroom teacher or myself if you need further information about school events or how your child is doing at school. Looking forward to another great term.
