Senior School News

Senior School News.png

This is our last newsletter for Term 1 and I would like to take the opportunity to reflect on what a positive start to the year the senior students have had.  Starting a new school year successfully requires both enthusiasm and resilience as you build new relationships with students and teachers and encounter new curriculum. The senior students have embraced these new challenges and opportunities for growth and it’s pleasing to see how they have started to form connections with their peers and teachers, creating a sense of community within the classroom. Their ability to manage tasks, participate in class discussions, and seek help when needed has ensured a strong start, which I am confident has set them up for a successful 2025 school year.

School Disco

Tomorrow night, Thursday March 27, we are holding our first disco for 2025.  Students in Years 5 and 6 will hit the dance floor from 5:30 – 6;30. The disco is a cash only event - the entry fee is $5.00 and the Student Representative Council (SRC) will be running the BBQ where you can purchase a sausage and a popper for $5.00.  Please remember that students are not permitted to walk home from the disco and MUST be collected by an adult at the end of the evening.

Senior Cross Country - Weather permitting

On Friday, March 28, the senior school students will participate in the Cross Country event.  We will start on the oval at approximately 8:35. Students will run in groups based on the year of their birth with students born in 2012 or 2013 running in the first race.  Students MUST wear a hat on the day and are encouraged to bring a water bottle to the event.  Parents are welcome to join us to watch this event.

Year 5 NAPLAN

NAPLAN is complete for 2025. I want to recognise the Year 5 students who put their best foot forward, even if it was with some trepidation for some of them.  The students demonstrated their willingness to be a “Learner” by having a go and actively engaging with these tasks and showed they were “Respectful” as they allowed others around them to focus on the task at hand.  For me as their Deputy Principal it was a great example of how ‘Successful” our Fernbrooke students are.

Year 6 Camp

After some delays I am delighted to say that we have reached the minimum number of students required by Camp Goodenough, allowing the Year 6 camp to go forward.  The total cost for the camp is $238.00.  You will have received, via email, an invoice for the balance of this amount after any deposit payments you have made.  Students participating in the camp will have also received a letter which included a list of items to bring and an activity consent form.  Final payment is due by Friday 19th September 2025.  Payment plans may be set up through the office if required.  If you have any questions about the camp, please contact Kerry Alberts.
